Tips for Sleeping Better
Here are some things you can do and some things you should avoid in order to get better sleep at night.
- Keep your bedroom dark
- Keep your bedroom quiet
- Avoid foods, beverages, and medications that contain caffeine
- Exercise regularly
- Make your sleep environment as comfortable as possible
- Get up at about the same time every day, even on weekends and holidays
- Go to bed with the intention of going right to sleep

- Don’t take naps
- Don’t go to bed until you’re sleepy
- Don’t use your bed or bedroom for anything other than sleeping or sexual activity
- Don’t consume caffeine within 4 hours of bedtime
- Don’t exercise within 4 hours of bedtime
- Don’t smoke prior to bedtime. (Ideally, don’t smoke at all!)
