Focus Hacks

Quick, humane tweaks that clear cognitive friction and help you drop into deep work.

Quick wins

Two minute rule

If a task takes under two minutes, do it now to prevent mental clutter. Batch a few to build momentum.

Single tab rule

Keep one work tab and one reference tab. Everything else goes to a “later” list you review after the block.

Task framing

Start blocks with a sentence: “In the next 25 minutes, I will complete X and leave Y as a note.”

Friction removal

Silence notifications, set phone face down in another room, and clear your immediate desk surface.

Pomodoro timer

25 minutes focus, 5 minutes break. Repeat 3–4 times.

Distraction log

Name the distraction to defuse it. Capture, then return to the task.

Environment checklist

  • Remove phone from desk
  • Close chat apps for 25 minutes
  • One line task statement written
  • Noise level set headphones or quiet
